  41. Well, after spending hours with our new Fast Digital Player Recorder, the 
  42. "flyer" for the VM Studio, there is no reason not to have machine control.

  44. For instance, (and this is a very simple example) :
  45. We ordered a multi-gig 8mm tape drive for backing up the system for a 
  46. couple thousand dollars. The idea is that clients can come in, do some 
  47. editing, then we back up the footage to tape, and archive it.  When they 
  48. come back, we restore it, load the movie, and go.

  50. Well, we realized that with the Fast, and it's machine control, as well 
  51. as time code logging and clip logging, that it would be about 2-3 times 
  52. faster just to redigitize all the clips than back them up and restore them.
  53. The DPR software has the capability to batch digitize ONLY the clips used 
  54. in the movie, or all of the clips that you originally digitized or any 
  55. combination.

  57. With the flyer, we HAVE to back up the digital video data, cuz we can't 
  58. really accurately redigitize without machine control.  Of course, this is 
  59. coming from speculation about the flyer, as we haven't gotten our beta 
  60. unit which is "indefinitely" delayed due to "chip" problems.
